Cougars
Introduction
Hello, on this page i'll be explaining to you facts about the endangerment of cougars. It's important that I explain how they're endangered and how we can keep them from going extinct.
Diet
The young eat raccoon's, coyotes, rabbits, hares, rodents, and sometimes pets and livestock. Adults eat the same as the young but they also eat deer or elk (1).
Climate
Cougars live in any climate that they can find their food at. They can live from the Mojave Desert (the hottest place in the U.S.A) to Alaska (the coldest place in the USA). You can find them all over the U.S.A, in the North there’s Canadian Yukon. In the South amazon rain forest, Argentina, and Patagonia. East there’s the whole Eastern U.S.A. In the West there’s the whole Western U.S.A. Here's a map below of sightings of the cougars (2).

Reason for Endangerment
There are two reasons that the cougars are endangered. The first reason is habitat destruction. So many people cut down cougars habitats, they live everywhere so it's hard to avoid to their habitats. Second of all, poaching. People kill cougars for many reasons. First of all, it's a sport and people use the skin or head of cougars as trophies. Second of all, to control population. Third of all, protection of pets, livestock, and property. Last but not least, fur. The population has gone down but up, there is about 30,000 cougars left in the world (3).
Why do they matter to us?
Cougars would affect the environment greatly. Two things would happen, the first thing would be their preys population would go up greatly. Second, the wildlife area would be cut down to make buildings etc. The cougars protect their environment (4).
What we could do.
Not buying cougars fur so that the poachers would stop, because there is no point of killing a cougar for fur if no one wants the fur. Not building where cougars live. If we build where they live, eventually they will have nowhere to live and start to die out because of the lack of food (5).
